Errors are simply one of the downsides of letting human beings loose in our workplaces.

Aviation transformed its approach to safety after the 1977 Tenerife Disaster in which 583 people lost their lives. Since then, we have continually applied a Human Factors based strategy of avoiding, trapping and mitigating errors which has led to a staggering drop in mortality rates of around 97%.

Research in other fields has shown that application of an Error Management strategy similar to aviation’s and as used in other safety critical industries could lead to as much as a 70% reduction in adverse events.

Our approach aims to share our aviation model and accelerate the change necessary which will have huge benefits for staff, clients and budgets – a rare win/win/win situation.

It’s not possible to simply ‘transplant’ the approach though. To use an analogy from my surgical days, the transplant isn’t a close enough tissue match and will get rejected. The underlying DNA however is very compatible in many instances meaning that with the support of staff, we can implement our framework by ‘genetically engineering’ it in.
